THE GAYEST Rock & Roll Family Schtick in Town this Fall!
Rocking’ The Gay 50’s
presented by The Graceland Girls

“Rockin’ The Gay 50’s” brought to you by The Graceland Girls, is a hysterically funny satire on gay adolescence in the 1950’s, the way many of us wish it had been! The show is an amalgam of 50’s rock music with same-sex vignettes for every occasion.

The Graceland Girls is a group of Lesbian musicians and actors over 50. They raise awareness around Gay Equality by spreading laughter through entertainment. They believe in serving a larger community irrespective of age, race, gender or ability.

“The reason I took up the production of this show, besides its enormous entertainment value, is I saw a group of women over 50 so passionate about creating something unique for the community that they were ready to turn their savings into production cost!”, comments Roke Noir. Ms. Noir is the President of Roke Noir Productions, “In Business for a world without strangers” which brings inspiring, innovative and intentional events to the queer community and its friends in the SF Bay Area.

The World Premiere of “Rockin’ The Gay 50’s” will run for 4 days in the SF Bay Area at two landmark theatres; solar powered Ashby Stage in Berkeley on Nov 21st and 22nd and The Victoria Theatre, the oldest operating theatre in San Francisco on Dec 5th and 6th.

“ I had so much fun singing and dancing to the music” says Susan Newman, who came to watch a Sneak Preview of the show on Oct 24th at a Rock & Roll Halloween Party in Oakland “ and I laughed the entire time till I started crying. I am going to bring my son and my mother to the show.”

J. Althea, the Director and one of The Graceland Girls, conceived the show quite accidentally, when love gone awry again and again whispered in her ear: “If only love had been gay from the start”. “Rockin’ The Gay 50’s will be performed by an all gay cast & band but since gay people don’t have a monopoly on adolescent angst, the show is for all folks of all ages and persuasions. Come on down and have some FUN !” says Althea in between playing the piano and advising on Elvis’s entry.

The comedy acting that accompanies the music includes scenes such as The Leader of the Pack crashing & dying, and being dragged offstage to return with wings in time for “Teen Angel”. Another over-the-top scene occurs during “Sherry”. “If you know the lyrics (“won’t you come out tonight”) you can imagine the twist The Graceland Girls have on that song” says Althea with a big grin.

Special discounted tickets are available for children, seniors and members of the community with disability. “We don’t want anyone to be turned away for lack of funds” says Ms. Noir. “ We have a work-exchange in place for people who want to see the show but are going through financial hardships.”
