The Graceland Girls present

“Rockin’ The Gay 50’s” brought to you by The Graceland Girls, is a hysterically funny satire on gay adolescence in the 1950’s, the way many of us wish it had been! The show is an amalgam of 50’s rock music with same-sex vignettes for every occasion. Your sides will ache with laughter before intermission!

The comedy acting that accompanies the music includes scenes such as The Leader of the Pack which easily leads to a medley of "Angel" songs. Another over-the-top scene occurs during “Sherry”. If you know the lyrics (“won’t you come out tonight”) you can imagine the twist The Graceland Girls have on that song.

You may expect a 50’s themed performance to include poodle skirts and saddle shoes, but The Graceland Girls’ trademark attire is elegant evening wear; tuxedos and cocktail dresses. But during the show out comes props and costume pieces worn right over the styling, such as the Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini worn on top of a tuxedo!

J. Althea conceived the show quite accidentally, when love gone awry again and again whispered in her ear: “If only love had been gay from the start….”. The show’s roots are in Alaska, where earlier versions were performed starting in 2002 under different titles. These versions weren’t same-sex, as Alaska just didn’t seem ready for that. But since gay people don’t have a monopoly on adolescent angst, the show was always received quite well and remains suitable for anyone ready to laugh out loud.

This newest and latest version “Rockin’ The Gay 50’s” will be performed by an all gay cast & band. It’s suitable for children over 5 (no cussing, moderate innuendo only). The Graceland Girls welcome all folks of all ages and persuasions. Come on down and have some FUN !

The Graceland Girls is a group of Lesbian musicians and actors over 50. They raise awareness around Gay Equality by spreading laughter through entertainment. They believe in serving a larger community irrespective of age, race, gender or ability.
